FTW Staff Picks - Red Flags

Working at a board game cafe provides the opportunity to witness many first dates. And while we’re not the type to spill the tea, we do enjoy ourselves in secret. Red Flags is like the ultimate party, dating game that brings to light all of the perks and quirks of meeting someone new. In order to make something funny, there must always been a strong element of truth. Being crude for the sake of being crude typically falls flat. Luckily the folks who brought us Super Fight have managed to find just the right level of honesty in Red Flags.

In Red Flags, players must attempt to convince The Single to choose their hypothetical date. Each player is given 3 Red Flags and 4 Perks to begin the game. Each round, one player is assigned The Single. The rest of the players must pick 2 Perks to give their date. Once all Perks have been played, players will play a Red Flag onto the player to their left. Once all dates have been completed, each player debates why their character is the best one for The Single to date. The selected player wins their Red Flag card to keep score. Play continues until one player has collected 7 Red Flags. That player is declared the winner!

If you’ve ever played Super Fight then Red Flags will feel very familiar. And as fun as it is to create hypothetical death battles, I think Red Flags is a much funnier formula. Like other party games, some of the cards can be hit or miss, but the different combinations of characteristics can create some really great situations. It’s a great way to get to know each other, and some of your friends may even surprise you with their decisions.

Dating is one of the most interesting activities from an outsider’s perspective. Being a part of it can sometimes feel a little too serious, so it’s nice to take a step back and laugh at the whole thing. Red Flags gives players the chance to laugh and reminisce over the past and even think about the future. And the best part about games like Red Flags are the stories that come out of it. Because who doesn’t love a little gossip?
