FTW Staff Picks - Tobago

Tobago is a very special game. Often times, I will try to compare games with similar mechanics, that fit into the same genres, in order to best give a recommendation. However when it comes to Tobago, I can safely say there isn't really anything like it. Creating a unique game is a grand accomplishment. And since its 2009 release, still nothing really comes too close (perhaps Akrotiri would be most similar).

In Tobago, players are adventurers discovering the bountiful, hidden treasures on the island of Tobago. What makes Tobago unique is that the locations of these treasures are entirely dependant on the players themselves. Deduction is a common style of game, but Tobago revolves around induction. Players places cards that will slowly reveal where the treasure is located, like an unfolding treasure map. Once there is only one possible location for the treasure to be, it is ready to claim. Each individual who contributes to building the map will get a share of the loot; the more you contribute the more you will receive.

ο»ΏTobagoο»Ώ can be easily picked up by newcomers to the hobby, but still feel equally as rewarding to complete as any other strategy game. It's a really strong gateway game, that doesn't often get played as much as it probably should. And that's why we decided to shine a little light on an often overlooked game in our Library. Drop by the cafe and give it a shot!
