FTW Staff Picks - Exploding Kittens

Exploding Kittens is a cult phenomenon. It's one of the few games to achieve that same status that Cards Against Humanity was able to attain. At its core, it's a simple card game that is really no different than a standard deck of cards. Often times, a cute theme and simple, yet rewarding mechanics are enough to carry a game.

In Exploding Kittens, players take turn drawing the top card of the deck hoping to avoid the deadly Exploding Kitten cards. Before drawing their card, they may play any number of action cards to manipulate the deck or even the turns of other players. The last player standing is the winner of the game.

Borrowing the styles of The Oatmeal, a humor blog created by Elan Lee & Matthew Inman, the asethetic of the game caters to a very specific crowd of people. Kittens will forever be a stable of the internet, and adding humorous situations to dress them in is how Exploding Kittens manages to draw the attention of many.

I know a lot of people who feel like they're a little too cool for Exploding Kittens, and that's fine if it's not your cup of tea. But many people I've introduced it to have loved it for what it is. A very light card game with explosive results. It's one of our most requested games for retail, and we're happy to announce that Exploding Kittens is now for sale at the cafe, in both the Original and NSFW versions.
